The American Academy of Continuing Medical Education (AACME) promotes global excellence in public health,

by defining, reviewing, and publicizing CME standards related to CME structure, process and outcome; measuring healthcare organization’s CME performance against the AACME’s peer-set standards; enhancing the knowledge of physicians and health care professionals through the highest level of accreditation standards for continuing medical education programs (CME) that are vital for their ongoing knowledge and skills they need to provide their patients and communities with optimum care and which will assist them in understanding the disease mechanism, diagnosis, and treatments.

The AACME is a worldwide accreditation body for Continuing Medical Education and serves as an advocate for the provision and documentation of the highest quality in the health care organizations. This is accomplished through the development of standards and through its survey and international accreditation.

When they have completed their survey, the team makes an accreditation recommendation, which is then reviewed by AACME's Accreditation Review Committee (ARC) and the Monitoring Committee (MC), who both collect review, and analyzes data including; investigating the organization’s previous and current activities, evaluating the academic and administrative planning of the organization’s medical education area.

The certificate of accreditation is the most visible result of the process. The ultimate value of accreditation, however, lies in the on going self-analysis, peer review, and consultation the center gains as it continues its participation in the program.
